Mirabilis Member Years

There shall be initially 410 Mirabilis Members. Mirabilis is latin for miracle. The Mirabilis Members will each be unique in that they will adopt a year in the great American story.

Little known, but important founding father of the United States, Elias Boudinot, born in Philadelphia.

1741

Sensational trial of blacks, slave and free, for conspiring to burn New York City, becomes known as “The Great Negro Plot.” Four whites and seventeen blacks were hanged.

1742

British troops defeat Spanish in Battle of Bloody Marsh, Georgia, in King George’s War.

1743

Founding Father Thomas Jefferson born on this day. He composed the initial Declaration of Independence, served as Vice-President and two terms as President. Architect, horticulturalist, bibliophile, connoisseur, farmer, polymath, Jefferson would define an era.

1744

Birth of Abigail Adams, wife of John Adams, and one of America’s great correspondents. Mother of President John Quincy Adams.

1745

Twenty-seven year old David Brainerd committed himself to evangelizing the Indians of New England but died only two years into the mission. Jonathan Edwards told his story and it inspired generations of evangelical missionaries in America.

1746

The English-Scottish army defeated the Highland host at Cullodon in Northern Scotland. Many of the highlanders fled to America or were sent into slavery.

1747

Knowles riot in Boston protested impressment into the British Navy.

1748

Naturalization Act in Britain allows Jews to settle in America

1749

The Ohio Company was granted a charter of land around the Forks of the Ohio by King George II. The Forks are at the conjunction of the Ohio, Monongehela, and Allegheny Rivers. The French built Ft. Duquesne, the British Fort Pitt there.
